Distance delivery option

Get the Dalhousie Social Work experience anywhere in Canada

We offer our Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program two ways: on-campus and through distance delivery via the Internet. Studying online offers you an opportunity to pursue your academics while continuing to work and participate in family and community life at home.

The BSW degree requirements for both the on-campus and online delivery programs are the same. You enroll in the same core courses and take the same elective offerings as students studying on campus. Students studying online take courses in all three terms—fall, winter and summer —while students studying on-campus generally enrol in the fall and winter terms only.

Our online program offers a rich and highly interactive learning environment. Students in our programs live in communities across Canada. They bring a diversity of perspective and experience to our courses.

As a distance student, you’ll actively engage in course content online through a variety of course tools: discussion boards, blogs, wikis, IM chat, and other interactive media.

We offer our BSW program courses through Blackboard, an Internet-based learning management system used by most students on campus as well.

Please note: At this time, the distance delivery option is only open to students who are Canadian Residents. International students may only apply to the on-campus social work program.

Alumna Shelly Adams, might have completed her degree vis distance delivery. but the Dartmouth, NS native and her seeing eye dog Buena walked across the stage to pick up her degree in person, to much applause. She thinks living with vision loss makes her a better social worker. She works as the registration and referral co-ordinator for the CNIB and does most of her work over the telephone.

“Everyone I talk to is adjusting to vision loss. If I feel it would be beneficial, I do disclose (I am also living with vision loss.) But I do understand what they’re going through. It’s very easy to empathize. Oh yeah, I’ve been there.”
